The Design Making Unit is based in the Graphic Design Studios at Chelsea College of Arts. We are building a community of makers across the CCW Design Programme and into the wider design community. To connect, make, share, upskill, experiment and to discover what happens when we breakdown traditional notions of design discipline. 

If you are studying Graphic Design pathways at CCW you can explore process, get help with brief busting using experimental methods or just inquire through curiosity and add to your knowledge. Take part in live projects, sprints and challenges, link to our fantastic alumni and the world of professional design.

The Design Making Unit has a few purposes:

1. Experiment with ideas and processes — mix things up and challenge the usual boundaries of what we think design can be.

2. Prototype & test ideas and materials — not sure how? Ask us.

3. Upgrade your design skills and unlock new levels of craft you didn’t know you were capable of.

4. The DMU is your 3rd Space — a community place outside the timetable. You can build links to the world outside Chelsea or invite them in! Talk to us about proposals or events you want to run.

5. Come to an induction or a Workshop — over the year you will find inductions for Risograph, Cricut, lino cut, Axidraw, animation, airbrushing and much more.
